Good to know: Moving from Switzerland to France
- Household goods are free of duty and taxes if you have lived outside the EU for at least 12 months and used the items for at least 6 months; import within 12 months. Present to customs a dated, signed, valued inventory in 2 copies and form Cerfa 10070.
- France has no general obligation to register your residence at the town hall (mairie); the government has declined to introduce one.
- A vehicle registered abroad must be re-registered within one month of settling in France. For the registration, customs issues certificate 846 A.
- Swiss nationals do not need a residence permit in France; the carte de séjour is optional but can be useful.
