Good to know: Moving from Switzerland to Croatia
- Household goods are free of duty and VAT if you have lived in a non-EU country for at least 12 continuous months and used the items in your own household for at least 6 months. Evidence: ‘Potvrda o boravku u inozemstvu’ (certificate of residence abroad) and invoices or similar.
- According to the government portal, EEA citizens staying longer than 3 months must register their temporary stay with the police no later than 8 days after those 3 months; failure to do so can incur a fine of 20 euros.
- Even when a car is imported duty-free as household goods, the special tax on motor vehicles (PPMV) must be paid, plus an end-of-life vehicle fee where applicable; this is handled by the competent customs office.
- Before first registration, each vehicle is individually checked for conformity. The authority recommends contacting the State Office for Metrology (DZM) before the move.
